Shane Lewis stole a woman's purse after offering to help her with her bags.

A 'MEAN' thief offered to help a Kirkby,UK woman unload her shopping, stole her purse containing £300.
The victim was unloading items from her car outside her home on Alexandra Street on 13th June when 26-year-old Shane Lewis approached and offered to assist.

Prosecutor Jim Metcalf told Nottingham Crown Court,UK on Friday: "He picked up her bags and took them to her house, but then disappeared."

The woman soon realised her purse was missing, containing the cash and credit cards.

Lewis admitted theft but denied going into the house to steal.

The court was told he had numerous convictions for dishonesty and was in breach of a drug treatment order.

In mitigation, Sarah Munro said Lewis had a heavy heroin addiction in the past but was now prescribed the substitute methadone.

But Judge Dudley Bennett told Lewis: "This was a thoroughly mean offence against a vulnerable female."

Sentencing was adjourned to 9th November, with bail refused unless he could prove that he would lose the tenancy of his Kirkby,UK flat if held in custody.
